SpaceX paid $174,257 for Terafab.ai, and 32 more companies bought .ai names
· Summary of an article by Andrew Allemann, Domain Name Wire
With more than one million .ai domains registered, Spaceship alone logged over $3 million in reported .ai aftermarket sales in the first months of 2026. Of 49 names sold there through April, about two-thirds already had live websites.
The most expensive was Terafab.ai, bought by SpaceX for its chip business at $174,257. At the other end, JPI.ai sold for $2,000 to a company deploying AI agents for French firms. A striking pattern: many buyers run AI tools for a specific industry, but chose brand names that do not mention that industry at all.
