# .ai reaches 598,007 domains before the registry handover

January 2, 2025 · Summary of an article by Andrew Allemann, Domain Name Wire

The .ai registry counted 598,007 domains at the start of 2025, up more than 25,000 in about a month.

Identity Digital was about to take over, bringing more standard policies and access to registrars that already sell nearly 300 extensions. The author warned the public statistics might stop after the move, which they largely did.
