In ICANN’s new top-level domain round, the ending **.agent drew 13 applications**, more than any other string. The applicants include **Google**, **Meta**, **OpenAI** and **Alibaba**, along with domain registries and a community applicant, as reported by Domain Name Wire and summarised by Robbie’s Blog on 27 October. ## A contest worth tens of millions When several applicants want the same ending, it usually goes to auction. Domain Name Wire’s Andrew Allemann suggests the .agent auction could pass **$50 million**, using Google’s $25 million win for .app as a benchmark. ICANN is due to publish withdrawals and changes on 17 November, and any new ending would only launch years from now. ## What it says about AI names Companies that build the world’s AI models are willing to pay record sums for an AI-related address. That is the clearest sign yet that names tied to AI and agents are some of the most valuable real estate on the internet.
