# Namecheap takes over auctions of expiring .ai names

February 4, 2025 · Summary of an article by Andrew Allemann, Domain Name Wire

Namecheap won the right to auction expiring .ai domains, taking over from Dynadot, which had run monthly auctions for the registry.

The change followed Identity Digital's takeover of the registry. Namecheap planned daily auctions instead of monthly ones, which changes how investors and end users can pick up dropped .ai names.
