Blockchain.ai lawsuit dropped after $405,000 expired-name auction

Blockchain.ai expired, went through the normal registry process and was sold at a Namecheap auction for $405,000. Its former owner, Howard Gould, sued Identity Digital, CentralNic, Namecheap and OnlyDomains, saying he had renewed in time.

He never served the defendants and dismissed the case on February 1, 2026. The case is a reminder of how valuable expiring .ai names have become, and why owners should keep auto-renew switched on.
