Anguilla approves 32 new .ai formats, opening the extension to Arabic, Japanese and other scripts

Anguilla's government has approved 32 new .ai domain formats, so web addresses can now be registered in characters from non-Latin writing systems such as Arabic and Japanese. Until now a .ai name could only be bought in Latin letters. IT minister Jose Vanterpool announced the change at a press conference on 12 October, saying approval had come about two weeks earlier.

The goal is to reach buyers in markets that do not use the Latin alphabet and grow registration income further, after .ai brought Anguilla EC$230 million (US$85.3 million) in 2025. Prices and a start date for the new formats were not given; registrations remain run by Identity Digital under its five-year agreement from October 2024.
