Vibe coding in 2026: building websites and apps by describing them
In February 2025, AI researcher Andrej Karpathy described a new way of programming in which the developer "fully gives in to the vibes": describing what they want, accepting the code an AI model produces, and steering by feedback rather than by writing syntax. The term vibe coding spread quickly, and within a year it had become the name of one of the fastest-growing categories in software.
How vibe coding works
A vibe-coding platform combines a large language model with a complete software environment. The user describes an application in natural language, for example a booking site for a hair salon with online payments. The system generates the user interface, the database schema and the server logic, runs the result in a live preview, and deploys it to the web. Every subsequent instruction, such as changing the colours or adding a login page, is translated into code changes. Behind the scenes, the platform uses the same agent techniques as professional coding tools: planning, editing, executing and correcting.
Growth without precedent
Stockholm-based Lovable is the category's most visible company. Research firm Sacra estimated its annualised revenue at $400 million in February 2026, up from $250 million at the end of 2025. In August 2026 the company closed a Series C at a valuation of $13.3 billion (Siècle Digital, 2026). Replit, which began as an online coding environment, reached an estimated $525 million in annualised revenue in April 2026, up from $300 million at the end of 2025, and was valued at $9 billion after its Series D (Sacra, 2026). Replit is now extending the concept from software to general office work.
Who builds with AI
- Founders who validate an idea with a working product before hiring developers.
- Small and medium-sized businesses that need websites, booking systems, shops and internal tools.
- Marketing and design teams that create landing pages, campaigns and brand assets themselves.
- Professional developers who use vibe coding for rapid prototyping before production engineering.
The next frontier: AI branding
The same generative techniques are moving beyond code to complete brand identities: names, logos, colour systems, copy and social media assets created from a short description of a business. Combined with AI website builders, this allows a company to go from idea to a branded, live online presence in a single session.
Brand opportunity: AI builder domains
The category is crowded, so a name that explains the product immediately has a measurable advantage in marketing and search. WebBuilders.ai is an exact-match name for an AI website builder. NewWeb.ai expresses the idea of a web created by AI. iProgram.ai fits a personal app builder, and iBrand.ai is ideal for an AI brand, logo and identity generator.
